Project Summary
The Pilbara Project – Exploring the World of Work has been created to support the development of
functional literacy and numeracy, and employability and foundation skills in young people
in the Pilbara Region.

The Pilbara Project acknowledges the critical role of facilitators in the facilitation of this program and thatÂ
students will have their own home language and cultural differences that they will bring to this
learning program.

The learning program introduces positive ideas around work culture and resilience with work, as
well as how functional literacy and numeracy, and employability and foundation skills apply to
different industries. This provides relevance to learning.

The learning program has one introductory stream and five content streams. The content streams
showcase employment opportunities for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander young people in the
Pilbara region and how language, numeracy and employability skills are applied in these jobs.

The learning program includes:

1. A Facilitator Guide.
2. Interactive PowerPoint Presentations for the five streams and one introductory stream.
3. A Student Workbook.
4. Student Learning Journeys.
