EvolveCDT has been working with the Fiona Wood Foundation over the last few years on the More than Skin Deep project. This project included the development of a Learning Management System and then the actual learning program.
Burn injuries are traumatic for children, young people and their families. Unfortunately, in Australia and New Zealand, burn injuries are common.
Evidence suggests that a holistic approach to burn care, including early and sustained attention to psychosocial needs, can help positive adaptation and recovery from trauma. This can assist burn survivors to adapt to their injuries and new appearance preventing potential problems such as social withdrawal, problems with school or work, and not feeling able to live a full and happy life.
MORE THAN SKIN DEEP - CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE - HEALTH PROFESSIONALS
A holistic approach to burns care
The More than Skin Deep – Children and Young People – Health Professionals learning program has five modules. Each module consists of on-screen information, podcasts, animations, self-knowledge check activities, readable and downloadable resources, and videos. At the end of each module there is a downloadable PDF of content introduced throughout the module.
Evaluation is an important component of this learning program with both a pre- and post-survey embedded into the learning program. These surveys provide the Fiona Wood Foundation with the opportunity to evaluate the learning program and determine areas for improvement. The surveys also provide an opportunity for self-reflection and planning.
A Certificate of Completion can be downloaded after completing the final module in the learning program.
MORE THAN SKIN DEEP - CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE – PARENTS & CARERS
A holistic approach to burns care
This program consists of two guides.
1. Supporting your child in hospital. 2. Supporting your child at home.
These guides provide parents and carers with strategies to help them support their child, themselves, siblings, and other family members while their child is in hospital and when they return home and include on-screen information, podcasts, animations, and videos.
At the end of the guides there is a downloadable PDF of content covered.

It will provide insight into the challenges a child or young person may be facing and help to build a greater understanding of the support strategies that can be used when working with a child or young person recovering from a burn and includes on-screen information, podcasts, animations, and videos.
At the end of the resource there is a downloadable PDF of content covered.
The learning program will be available via the Fiona Wood Foundation's website.
