Working with the not-for-profit Fiona Wood Foundation, this project involved developing a self-paced e-learning resource for health professionals and support workers working with children and young people recovering from a burn injury.

The overall aim of this learning program is to enhance the delivery of psychosocial care for children, young people and their families in order to improve outcomes and quality of life following a burn injury. 

​

The More than Skin Deep – Children and Young People – Health Professionals learning program has five modules. Each module consists of on-screen information, podcasts, animations, self-knowledge check activities, readable and downloadable resources, and videos. At the end of each module there is a downloadable PDF of content introduced throughout the module.

Module 1 - Care of the child with an acute burn - The Paediatric Medical Traumatic Stress Response

Module 2 - Care of the child with an acute burn - Managing dressings and acute surgery

Module 3 - How staff can support the psychosocial needs of the patient and their family in the inpatient setting

​

Module 4 - How staff can support the psychosocial needs of the patient and their family in the outpatient setting

Module 5 - How staff can support themselves and others in a challenging health care environment

Evaluation is an important component of this learning program with both a pre- and post-survey embedded into the learning program. These surveys provide the Fiona Wood Foundation with the opportunity to evaluate the learning program and determine areas for improvement. The surveys also provide an opportunity for self-reflection and planning. 

 

A Certificate of Completion can be downloaded after completing the final module in the learning program.
